new blog, new website!

I'm so pleased to announce that my website is up and running! Check it out at http://www.thaneeya.com.

I also have a new blog incorporated into my website, which means that I will probably be really quiet on this one. Rather than shut it down, I think I'll leave it up as an archive, and maybe poke my nose back in every now and then if I get the gumption. So if you're here and wondering why I haven't posted lately, mosey on over here and check out my latest!

Cheers!

ssssssssshhh.....

I've been a bit digitally quiet lately, working on art and exploring more of the Welsh countryside, but mainly working on a total revision of my website, which is proving to be intensely time-consuming! Here is a screenshot of what the new homepage will look like:

I am adding lots of new art and organizing the shop section to include an integrated shopping cart. In addition I will also be including anupdated bio along with some articles and journal entries that I've written over the years. I'm excited about my new website, and hope to share it with you soon!

In the meantime, here is a shot of the Welsh countryside. I particularly like this photo for the strong sense of isolation, and almostdesolation, that I feel it evokes... a thin (one-lane) stretch of road snaking across empty terrain on a grey, overcast day. I feel it conveys thesense of quiet beauty that comes with open, empty spaces.

Portrait of a Young Man

Here is the finished commissioned portrait from last month:

Sunday, February 24, 2008

Hello February

I've been rather quiet on this blog lately! I suppose it's because I've been so busy with many different projects... including planning a trip to Wales! But I thought I'd pop my head back into this blog and share a pic of my workspace at the moment... as you can see I've been working on several different pieces at once (as per usual)!

You might notice one of the paintings is a bit different than the others, so let me tell you about it. the portrait painting was commissioned for someone's younger brother as a Bar Mitzvah present. The customer wanted a painting that would reflect the young man's interests, which center around fantasy elements such as swords, dragons, castles, wizards, etc! She described him as a very dreamy and creative young man, so we decided it would be a neat idea to paint him asleep, having a dream about a great wizard/dragon battle. He actually owns his very own sword, which forms the 'border' for his dream. I'll post more update photos as the painting progresses, but here it is so far:

The underpainting for his face is finished, now I've just got to smooth it over and tighten it up. Next I will add some shadows in the clouds surrounding his face, and then move onto the swords!

Introducing a new line of wearable art

I have been selling my art online since 2002, and am now expanding my business to include a line of pendants featuring prints of my own original artwork. All of the images on the pendants offered in my store have been created by me! This is a wonderful way to spread the joy and color of my artwork to more people around the world... and also allows more people the opportunity to purchase and enjoy the artwork in a fun, stylish, wearable form!

Here is a closer look at some of the pendants!
